27th Dec 2009 was the ride date

It was one of the those usual Cold and rainy days in Kemmanagundi, which is integral part of Malnad region in Karnataka. Since it was winter the day at 7:00 was pretty much dark. I was alarmed at 6:00, Woke up started packing things and got ready by 7:00. Bid adieu to friends in Kemmanagundi. Though the road from Kemmanagundi to Lingadahalli is treachours my bullet managed it pretty good. Took me around 45 min to reach Lingadahalli which is around 22kms from Kemmanagundi and from there on took deviation to Birur.

Myself drenched in Malnad Rain

From Kudremukh, Kemmanagundi Ride

In Birur enquired a private bus driver for the best route to Chitradurga. Took deviation to Ajjampura had tea along with smoke and left Birur to ChiTradurga.

Reached Chitra Durga at around 10:00 and searched for a good breakfast point. I had spent 3 to 4 kms in Chitradurga searching for a good breakfast point. Finally found one had Idly, Vada, Tea and Smoke, left to Bellay Via Chalkare at around 10:20. Bellary is around 140 kms from ChitraDurga. The road from Chalkare to Bellary is just flat and Good. I took around 90 min to reach Bellary.

Myself drenched in Malnad Rain

From Kudremukh, Kemmanagundi Ride

By 12 noon was in Bellary by then the temperature had gone up to around 33 Degrees. The temperature was around 11 Degrees when I started from Kemmanagundi. The hefty traffic and hot wheather in Bellary slowed me down. Fueled up at a BP Petrol station in Bellary and enquired the best route to Hyderabad from the people in the BP Petrol Station. I had lost arond 45 min of time in Bellary city limits. My intention was to stop for lunch in Raichur which is about 210 kms from Bellary. Which did not take place.

Reached Siruguppa at 1500 hrs which was 130kms from Bellary. Was very much hungry by that time and stopped from lunch at a local mess. Had meals with local curry for 35Rs. The rice was sweet and good. I think it was the Raichur rice which I had heard a lot From people in Blore. Spent around 20 min having lunch. The roads from Bellary to Raichur is flat, Smooth and good to ride, no pressure for the butt as well.

Reached Raichur at around 1610 hrs. I had actually forgot to cancel my train to Hyderabad. I realized that in Raichur after crossing a reservation counter and had to cancel my ticket. Went to a internet browsing centre then canceled my tickets. Had tea and smoke during my stay in Raichur. My stay in Raichur cost me
20 min of the time. it was around 1630 hrs when I left Raichur. Next destination was Mehahbubnagar which was arond 95 kms from Raichur. My intention was to reach Mehahbubnagar before dusk. Passed by this very huge Thermal Plant in Raichur. Since it was winter I fell short of natural light to Mehahbubnagar by 15kms. Crossed crowdy Mehahbubnagar and reached Jadcherla at 1810 hrs.

The road from Jadcherla to Hyderabad is a complete Mayhem, 4 lane highway. Hyderabad was around 90kms from there on. Butt had started indicating, to Soar. Stopped at a local Dhaba for masala tea and Smoke. Had to make some phone calls to couple of friends and family. This entire process at the dhaba took me arond 30 min. Left dhaba at 1840 hrs and reached Hyderabad outskirts 1950hrs.

Once reached Hyderabad outskirts had to crawl home in the city traffic. Close to home there is a Hyderabadi house, parceled a much deserved mouth watering Hyderabadi Dum ka Mutton Biyrani. Reached home in around 5 mins from the Restaurant. Had couple of drinks and hogged Biyrani like never eaten before and hit the cozy bed at around 2200hrs.

Another good experince added to my kitty. Sorry for not taking much pics on the way.

Tuesday 29th Sep 09

Supposed to leave Kanyakumari by 5:30 am in the morning which did not happen. we were ready by 6:00 am, the sun rise was around 6:15 am. We planned to view the beautiful sun rise, then had some Tea and light breakfast and left Kanyamumari by 7:00 am . We headed towards Rameshwaram passing through Kudangalam where it drizzled for about 25 min which proved a wrong one for Pratap who had a slip of the road , Toothukody (Tuticorn) where we had stopped for breakfast, ECR (Flat, Dry and Windy as usual) most of the time on ECR the wind was so strong I thought wind will carry me along with Bullet off the road, Ramanathapuram is where we stopped for lunch and ATM. Then on the way to Rameshwaram Stopped over the huge bridge for some pics and reached Rameshwaram by around 1600 hrs. Took an a/c accommodation for around Rs 250 per head. We were instructed by our homes to take bath with 22 theertas inside the temple. Taking bath in the temple is as usual scheduled to end by 18:30 hrs. So we had to rush to the temple to take bath before it is closed for the day. all 5 of us took bath with 22 theertas had good darshan of the lord Shiva and rested for the day. Had plans viewing sun rise at Dhanushkodi the next day. only Pratap would join me since the rest wanted to rest for some more time in the morning.
(Kanyakumari to Rameshwaram 325 kms)

Wednesday 30th Sep 09

woke Pratap at 5:30 am in the morning and left to Dhanushkodi. Reached there by 6:00 hrs to see the sun rise, but the clouds had played the spoilt sport. we waited near the Indian Navy Post for 10 min. Had a walk around enquiring how to reach the end point of India. Then we both were guided by a local. After that we headed towards the end point. We knew it would be a little tough riding in the smooth sand. So I came up with an idea of riding over the Jeep Tracks which also would help us in navigation and better grip. Mind you it worked out well even though we had got stuck in a couple of places. Once we reached the end point felt that road towards the end point of India was shorter than we expected. We took some pics and saw the ruins of Danushkodi and headed straight back towards the Indian navy post.
DSC07030
On the way back to Rameshwaram myself and Pratap met Willy, DJ and Body on their way to Danushkodi. We gave them some instructions how to reach the end point of India. we then headed towards our room and then breakfast. The 3 of them arrived at around 11:00 am then we left for Madurai which was around 170 kms from Rameshwaram. We stopped for lunch at Madurai, Belted mast biryani at Bell hotel and headed towards Salem. In Madurai traffic Body had a small fall avoiding a rickshaw who took a turn without indicating. Just few scratches first aid was done on the spot. Lost a good couple of hours next stop was at Karur for a TT injection for Body which took a another hour and headed towards Salem, reached Salem by 2200 hrs after dinner at a roadside hotel. Hunted for accommodation and settled in there by 2300 hrs.
